Increasingly driven by fentanyl, opioid-related deaths in Iowa are at alarming record high. Disturbingly, deaths may be even greater in number if not for interventions including naloxone. Attitude drives behavior and mistakenly many teens and adults have a false sense of security about prescription and over-the-counter drugs. This workshop will offer insight into the ways opioids effect the brain and the ease in which use can lead to disorder (addiction). Participants will gain awareness into risk factors and strategies to reduce opioid overdose and walk away having confidence in their ability to administer Naloxone in a life-threatening situation. Because accidental overdoses can happen at any age, this course is designed for parents with children of all ages.
