Virtual: Understanding Iowa Code Related to Sexual Offenses and Sex Offender Registry: How to Inform Minors and Young Adults

Description: From this training, participants will be able to understand the law regarding age of consent to prevent arrests based on lack of knowledge. They will also be able to understand the penalties for sexual offending along with how to communicate about this with youth in their lives. Participants will learn about how probation or parole supervision work and what it means to be put on the Sex Offender Registry as well as getting off the registry. Lastly, they will learn about the definitions and risks young people might take with sexting and child pornography.

**This qualifies for Group Credit through HHS (like in-person classes)

Virtual Participant Expectations
To ensure a positive and productive experience, please review the following expectations:  

  1. Attendance:
    1. Please attend on time and stay for the full duration. Notify us in advance if you’re unable to attend.
    2. Each participant needs to register individually, however those in the same household can be on the training using one device.
    3. Both individuals need to verbally/visually check in and out when attendance is taken. Also, BOTH individuals need to be visible via the camera throughout the training.
  2. Engagement:
    1. Actively participate in discussions and activities. Log on prepared and ready to contribute.
    2. Keep your camera ON. If you are unable to have your camera on, we expect that you will be participating in the chat. We will be monitoring who does/does not have their camera on and who is/is not participating throughout the training.
    3. Please have supervision available for children so you can actively participate in this training as you would an in-person training.
  3. Professional Conduct: Treat trainers and fellow participants with respect. Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated.
  4. Confidentiality: Respect the confidentiality of personal or sensitive information shared during the training.
  5. Inclusivity:
    1. Contribute to a welcoming, non-discriminatory environment. Respect diverse identities and perspectives.
