The number of drug products available to Iowans is increasing via new substances, slightly altered formulations, and mixtures. Polysubstance use—consuming two or more drugs at the same time or in rapid succession—is becoming more common. Potencies are rising in several products, including: craft beers, nicotine for vaping, marijuana vapes and edibles, meth, and illicit synthetic opioids, such as fentanyl. This workshop offers insight into the growing threat Iowa Youth and their families face from psychoactive substances. In this workshop, participants will gain understanding of substances being used and abused in Iowa, what is driving the use in Iowa, risk factors, and be able to identify substances that may be hidden in plain sight within their homes. At the conclusion of the training, participants will receive a list of resources of recommended readings, videos, websites, blogs, podcasts, etc. for more in-depth information sorted by topics of interest. This course is designed for parents with children of all ages.
