Summary: While children are in foster care, meaningful visits with their parents are both a critical way of maintaining relationships and a means of working toward reunification. For children who are adopted, visitation with their parents might look different, but these are still meaningful because they can help children connect their past with their present. When children want visits with their parents, it does not mean that the children can’t or don’t love both sets of parents. Family visits can be an opportunity for children, and both sets of parents to build relationships and develop strong connections.

This theme describes how to become an advocate for children in your home to ensure they receive the services and support that they need. Emphasis is placed on being a life-long learner, recognizing the importance of developing a support network (school, community supports, friends, medical), and learning about the types of services and supports that the child and/or the family that is fostering or adopting might find beneficial.

**Training totals to 2 Group Credit hours through HHS.
